People have traditionally looked to those allegedly endowed with magical abilities to address their issues. Healers from all cultures guarantee prompt and efficient remedies, whether used to treat illness, resolve tense interpersonal relationships, or acquire divine protection.

But occasionally, these so-called healers who swear by the sea and salt succumb to their tricks. This happened to a Nigerian medicine man in July 2018 when he accidentally killed himself while trying to show off his exceptional talents.

A magical incident

A guy by the name of Chukwudi Ijezie hired the medicine man Chinaka Adoezuwe to create an amulet that would shield him from gunfire.

The 26-year-old medicine man started working immediately and informed Chukwudi Ijezie that the finished product was imminent. He contacted the client to test the amulet and determine its efficacy.

But Ijezie resisted being shot to persuade himself. The medicine man decided to serve as the experiment’s test subject since he was confident that the amulet was fully functional and did not want to let his customer down. Ijezie was given a rifle and wrapped the charm around his neck.

He instructed him to aim for a specific distance before firing. The client complied, aimed well, and fired.

Adoezuwe was struck by the gunshots as planned, and he passed away instantly. Ijezie was detained on suspicion of murder after the event, according to Nigerian police spokesman Andrew Enwerem.

Superstitious individuals

Like many African nations, the majority of the population in Nigeria adheres to superstitions. They commonly rely on healers and rituals to get well, become prosperous, ward off evil spirits, or affect different events.

Nigerians strongly believe in these techniques; even the local police claim they would rather wear bulletproof amulets than body armor.

A 27-year-old guy lost his life in July 2018 after consuming a “bullet repelling potion” and allowing many individuals to shoot at him. The healer who provided him with the miracle wine was accused of murder.

Another Nigerian healer was shot in the head in 2003 while ensuring that the bulletproof amulets he was selling to a client were effective. Unsurprisingly, he passed away right away.

A widely held opinion

The world does not only believe in the effectiveness of amulets to deflect bullets in Nigeria. A man in Ghana anointed his body with a blend of herbs made by a medicine man in 2001 for two weeks.

The concoction was intended to operate as a bulletproof barrier, but nothing came of it. The stupid man was shot and instantly passed away.

The peasants attacked the healer out of hatred. One of the village elders leaped to his defense and saved him as they were about to lynch him.
